Visionary Women On The Rise
Last week Thursday, the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society hosted its annual New York cocktail with a panel discussion on “How to Accelerate Women’s Economic Growth” at the Skyroom of the French Institute, aka Alliance Française. The evening was co-hosted by the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society, Madeira Global and FIAF, with the support of Assouline. Celebrated author Angella Nazarian, also signed copies of her new book, Visionary Women, a highly inspiring good read that I highly recommend.
“When we connect with others, we can create fuel that will make this world a better place and certainly fast forward women and girls,” Kim Azzarelli
“I am a true believer in peer mentorship. It’s a must for the advancement of young women and girls.” Angella Nazarian, author of Visionary Women published by Assouline.
“Twenty years after the Beijing conference, it is time to speed up the empowerment of women around the world, to be more energetic, and to create more opportunities,” notes Jacqueline Franjou, CEO of the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society.
Among the powerful women portrayed in Visionary Women, Rosario Perez, former president and CEO of Pro Mujer, concluded that “We can’t underestimate the power of showing someone who they can make it.” A member of the Women’s Forum Mexico Advisory Committee, Perez added that “women in Latin America do not have the same access to opportunity and resources but they have the will and drive. Our mission at Pro Mujer is to provide that helping hand so that women can help each other.”
Among the other attendees at the cocktail event were former and future delegates of the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society, such as Martine and Prosper Assouline; Alexandre Assouline, Rising Talents Laetitia Garriott de Cayeux and Hannah Seligson; Actress Kiera Chaplin; television producer Carole Holmes Delouvrier; member of the House of Lords and 30% Club co-founder Mary Goudie; Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Alliance Executive director Olivia Flatto; Assouline Vice-President Stéphanie Labeille-Sczyrba; philanthropist Francine LeFrak; corporate social responsibility expert Susan McPherson; Art dealer and gallery owner Eric Mourlot; Starlite Randall; authors Jenny Santi and Delphine Schrank; visual artist Jessica Seeley; FIAF President Marie-Monique Steckel; Founder of Amor and humanitarian Ambassador Tasha de Vasconselos; WeConnect International President Elizabeth Vazquez; and Marissa Wesely.

Dream for the Sky
Peter Wilderotter, and Dorothy CosonasSO LUXE!“This project is personal. My 24 year old daughter became paralyzed suddenly from a rare auto immune disease,” says Dorothy Cosonas. “The Reeve Foundation is a place that creates hope — like birds, that hope can rise to the sky.”The veteran brand, Knoll Luxe Textile, recently collaborated with Savoir Beds in order to benefit the Christopher Reeve Foundation. My friend C. Jean and I went to the event last week, and we were both impressed with what we saw. The event was spearheaded by Dorothy Cosonas from Luxe Textile; and the bed in question: Dream for the Sky is made of 100% linen with design elements in viscose and an accent of Swarovski crystals – the aesthetics were simply très jolie.
Savoir Beds is currently offering these custom designed headboards in five of my favorite patterns from Knoll: Arabella, Sandis, Mepal, Gates, and Garden City. 100% of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Christopher Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury. Additionally, for one year, a percentage of the proceeds for the sale of the selected Savoir beds that are upholstered with the above-mentioned fabrics from Knoll Luxe, will also go to the Foundation.Custom Savoir Bed upholstered with a Knoll Luxe Linen FabricThe ‘Dream for the Sky‘ bed is being auctioned by CharityBuzz.com for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation 100% of the proceeds will go towards the foundationPhoto credit: Knoll TextilesCAPPELLINI
That same evening, a few blocks down, in the same artsy neighborhood of Soho, the folks at Cappellini were celebrating a project which involved a couple of cool designers from Amsterdam…

This sustainable bed is from a project that was part of a larger initiative – One Hundred Days – an international art competition launched by Contaminate NYC back in 2011. Contaminate is a social and cultural platform for art immerse experiences and – given its social entrepreneurial roots – decided to challenge artists to produce projects combining art and sustainability issues. Hurricane Sandy has been pretty tough on us New Yorkers, but nothing can and will keep us away from some of the most outstanding art exhibitions going on in this city. One such showing is from Magen H. The gallery will debut a small, but ambitious show of La Borne 1940-1980: A Post War Movement of Ceramic Expression on Thursday, November 8th from 6:00 – 8:00PM. The show’s official dates are Friday, November 9th until Saturday, December 15th.
La Borne 1940-1980 is an an exhibition and sale of post-war French ceramics from the La Borne, a dynamic movement of avant garde artists who were at the forefront of transforming ceramics and pottery from the purely decorative into an art form … sculpture. The movement was parallel to Abstract Expressionism of the 1940s through 1960s.This is the very first time that these modern and desirable pieces, over 100 museum-quality ceramics and sculptures from artists who worked in the remote town of La Borne in western France including Jean and Jacqueline Lerat (founders of the movement), Elisabeth Jouilia, Vassil Ivanoff, Pierre Digan, and Hildegund Schlichenmaier among others, will be available for purchase here in the United States. This exposition is a fine opportunity for collectors to discover these sculptural ceramics that have never been seen altogether and never before exhibited in this country.Gustave Tiffoche Vase circa 1960, stoneware26″ H x 20.5″ WLong dish/plate, c. 1958, stoneware4″H x 34″W x 8″D“There is an unexpected beauty to these pieces that are the opposite of one-dimensional pottery such as Sèvres and Vallauris pottery- they open a dialogue with the viewer, alluring, they make you want to interact with them are best appreciated up close and from all angles.”Left: Monique Lacroix-Mohy, Sculptural bowl, circa 1960, stoneware.Right: Remi Bonhert large vase circa 1960, stonewareThese pieces are so rare that they can only be found in private collections in France as well as at the Musée des Art Décoratifs, The Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Musée Nationale de Céramique de Sèvres. The relevance of these artists is already being recognized; Musée Nationale de Céramique de Sèvres has just opened a retrospective of Jacqueline Lerat. Interestingly the movement attracted a large number of female artists and the show represents a good cross section of their work.Joelle DeroubaixLarge Stone Ware Vase ca 1970Yves MohySculpture vase c 1960-62 stoneware, signedHugues MagenImages courtesy Magen HAll rights reserved -

Social Butterflies
The social swirl of New York City already started with a boom. At the closing of Fashion Week, New York’s socialites continued to put on the ritz by attending a series of high profile events. It’s impossible to cover them all, so on this post, I’m only going to focus on just two (look for a series of others to come, and for more pictures on our Facebook Page). Alright then, let’s start with the Nancy Gonzalez‘ event last week at Sotheby’s.Pictured: Santiago Gonzalez, Nancy Gonzalez, and China ChowNina Garcia, and Nancy GonzalezFor those who are not familiar with her work, Nancy Gonzalez is a precious skins accessories designer who’s known and admired for her innovative design, distinct craftsmanship and timeless elegance. Recently, she’s partnered with TWO x TWO, a Dallas-based charity, in order to create a truly unique, and outstanding tote collection. Cindy and Howard Rachofsky of TWO x TWO and her design company commissioned ten world class contemporary artists to each create a one-of-a-kind Leaf Tote Bags for the upcoming TWO X TWO For Aids and Art benefit for AmfAR and the Dallas Museum of Art. Now on its 2nd year, and from the looks of things, still going strong, The TimeCrafters Luxury Watch Exhibition is an event organized by Editions Temps International, a leading European publisher of magazines in the international watch sector. Their goals is to educate people on fine watchmaking and showcasing the latest designs from the world’s top watchmakers. Brand executives and representatives were on show at the Park Avenue Armory up until this past Sunday, as they presented an excellent timepiece exhibition, and discussed the newest inventions to this centuries-old craft, as well as shared technological advancements and behind-the-scenes information. Last year, the show was held at the New York Times Building in midtown Manhattan, but for some reason or the other, they moved into the Armory. Although fairly well attended, the exhibition itself lacked the warmth and atmosphere which the former building brought about so effortlessly. But I believe most of the folks who attended were not there to notice the negative space, but to enjoy and buy some of the world’s most exquisite and sought after timepieces.Don Mcnichol, Stephane Linder, Matt SpacePhoto courtesy High End WeeklyMarta Danylyk, Francois Bezault, Simran MalhotraRobert Weintraub, Michael MargolisRolf StuderSarah Siciliano, Shelby FredaPhotos courtesy A. Remembrance of Things Past
The hyperrealist movementWe can all safely agree that art is uniquely a personal choice which creates a lot of emotions. When I first came across the works of Brooklyn-based artist Victor Rodriquez, my emotions ran high. In a good way. Victor Rodriguez‘ credentials in the art world has been rising for a number of years, especially because he’s been highly regarded as a pioneering figure in the new hyperrealist movement.Vader Kiss by Victor Rodriguez
Major institutions such as Art San Diego, the Museum of Contemporary, Art Flint Institute of Contemporary Arts, and Museo de Monterrey have carried his work. And now, the 40 year old artist who was born in Mexico is set to debut his latest exhibition called Black Dodecahedron at Sebastian & Barquet tomorrow, Thursday, September 6, 2012. The show will run until Friday, October 5th. S+B is located at 601 West 26th Street #300, NYC.Ulysses by Victor Rodriguez12 Slice DodecahedronCourtesy Victor Rodriguez. All rights reservedIn his latest series Victor Rodriguez repaints his pieces multiple times exploring the way our perception of memories change over time. He does this by utilizing techniques of photorealism to evoke the transformation of the past and present. Black Dodecahendron, a collection of monumental-sized paintings, strays from his former work by demonstrating a scarcity of an intense color palette and dramatic pyrotechnics by employing black geometric figures.
