Madison Avenue Glamour (French Style)
Maubousin is located at 714 Madison Avenue, NYC.Art Design by Jay C. LohmanMAUBOUSSINShopping at the Upper East Side on Madison Avenue is a bit more picturesque then the streets of Monaco. And that’s a good thing because most Eastsiders like to obtain more mileage on their luxury goods. Madison Avenue is well known for its serious, veteran luxury brands, but over the past few years, many new comers have also taking residence. One such brand is Mausboussin on East 63rd Street. Since 1827, this French paragon in the jewelry world have been dazzling the world with their stunning, and at times, whimsical bijoux, and interior design choices. We happen to be quite impressed with the latest efforts from NY-based, Milanese artist, Jay C. Lohman. The look is artsy, refreshing and oh so French.CHRISTOFLE
Last October, we visited the then newly designed Christofle – also on Madison Avenue. They have moved from their location near Barneys New York to East 70th Street. Although the store is a bit more smaller than we would of liked, its true appeal lies in the smart interior design by Stéphane Parmentier. It’s highly sophisticated, elegant, and like Mausboussin, very French.

Christofle: The Silver Spirit Takes Off
Spring 2013 will mark a year since the venerable french tableware company opened their flagship store on Madison. The art of their trademark designs has ultimately raised the bar for other high end silversmith makers since 1830. But, how have they evolved? Very well from the looks of their latest collections, and from the stellar list of designers, including the late Andree Putman, that keep collaborating with them by making their original design even better. Check out these stunning photographs from Christofle which I have saved for months on end – just for you.French-born interior designer Stéphane Parmentier designed Christofle’s flagship store on the ultra chic and trendy Madison Avenue neighborhood. Stéphane actually began his career in fashion working for Lanvin, Hervé Léger and Karl Lagerfeld. He later took another role as art director for the Givenchy and Montana ready-to-wear collections. In 2000, he traded in his dress form for a drawing board, founding his own interior architecture agency in Paris. That was when he became an instant globetrotter, working in Paris, London and Miami! In 2012, he was appointed art director for the home furnishings division of Printemps department store and has since worked on the renovation of the Orange headquarters in Paris. His latest creations were shown last November at Themes & Variations, a gallery in London. Stéphane is a marvelous person and an incredible inspiration!Stunning: Christofle’s New York Flagship Store on Madison Avenue
Christofle is an excellent silverware choice for the well appointed house. Although I found their staff a little distant at times, there’s no mistaking the high quality of their products, and their revered heritage. Mise en table, all these elements are a sure crowd pleaser. Christofle is located at 846 Madison Avenue (between 69th and 70th Street), New York City. Becoming A Domestic Diva
Vyna St. Phard, and Michael AramPhoto courtesy High End Weekly™A Cheerful InvitationIn my opinion, everyone who appreciates the pleasure – and the importance – of preparing a meal for family and friends, should also appreciates the importance of setting up an elegant table. On Tuesday morning, I was invited to visit Michael Aram‘s flagship store on West 18th Street, and was just delighted to see his fine porcelain collection, designed to reflect the way we are entertaining today in the modern world. His pieces incorporated ease and comfort without sacrificing grace and detail. I’ve always liked Michael’s designs because they’re perfect for parties, celebrations, get-togethers, sit-down dinners, brunches and fabulous holiday buffets.Constructed of Limoges bodies with exceptionally executed graphic details, the pieces remain sturdy enough to withstand everyday use. Each motif stands on its own but can also be combined with any or all of the texture patterns to create many variations of place settings. The designs are also carefully managed to integrate perfectly with Michael’s existing array of metal, glass, wood and stone serving and decorative objects. All the body shapes are exactly the same, so you can mix the plates any way you wantand know they’ll always look beautiful. The result is an exquisite table every time you use them…casual when you want to be, more formal when the time is right…with motifs that go from two-dimensional expressions in the place settings to fully sculptural executions in the center of the table. This table setting was styled by yours truly. Michael called on various design bloggers to createa table setting that will incorporate his new collections along with his old pieces. The bouquet arrangement is from his fabulous team.Incorporating the outdoors into his designs is one of the many strenghts of Michael Aram’s body of work. This simple yet elegant tabletop setting called for a little mix and match – silver and wood accessoriesequal a congenial mariage.Photos courtesy HL GROUPThe fun continued at the office later that day, when I mixed Michael Aram’s glamorous coasterswith pieces from Jasper Conran and Gerard Nouri. Our office table adorned with a Michael Aram’s coaster from his new collection as well as his old cat and mouse tray (“abstract” photo taken by our intern Jerome Massi).Photos courtesy High End Weekly™Renown international designer Michael AramPhoto courtesy HL GROUP -
Drama At The Table
Photo credit Chronicle/Eric LuseHow To Decorate Your Tables – BeautifullyMy gift to you today is a series of dramatic table settings that I’ve collected from the Internet over the years. No doubt you appreciate the pleasure and the importance of preparing a meal, and setting an elegant table as you get together with your friends and families. So today, as you welcome them in your homes and ultimately your tables, why not do so with a bit of flair, and a lot of drama?Simple and personal touches at the table equal lasting memoriesPhoto via Brunch at SAKSCenterpieces are key to any table settings. Tableware Designed With an Eye on Peace
From celebrated French porcelain tableware company Bernardaud, and the Art Production Fund came a collector’s item plate conceived by leading artist Jeff Koons. The design of this special edition Limoges porcelain plate is a direct reference of Jeff Koons “Popeye series” sculpture Acrobat, an inflatable lobster balanced atop two readymades, a trash can and a chair. The idea behind this picture brings to mind the classical concept of beauty through the equilibrium of mind and body. I can’t think of a better porcelain company than Bernardaud, who over the years have had some of the most successful collaborations with top artists as Roy Lichtenstein, Cindy Sherman, George Segal, Joeph Kosuth, Arman, César, Pae White, and James Brown, to present this unforgettable piece which bears the image of the shape of a peace sign And the fact that the graphics are in black and white (we get enough colors from our food) makes the patterns even more striking. The project was made possible through a gracious contribution from Sotheby’s.
Bernardaud is a family owned-and-operated business which was founded in 1863 in Limoges, France. The trendsetting company is recognized worldwide for its commitment to the French traditions of refinement and creativity in the crafting of porcelain tableware, jewelry and interior design pieces. The 10.5″ limited edition plate retails for $98.00 and is available for purchase through www.worksonwhatever.com.
